PENOBSCOT and BLUE HILL William J. Greene, 87, died June 22, 2006, at a Blue Hill hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1918, in Blue Hill, the son of Fred L. and Beulah E. (Grindle) Greene. He served in the Army during the Pacific Theaters and was a merchant marine for more than 20 years. He loved to travel and enjoyed music of all kinds. Bill was a member of the Odd Fellows, Ira Berry Masonic Lodge and the East Blue Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by a son, Barry William Greene and wife, Brenda, of Hermon; daughter, Linda Lois Hubbard of Hermitage, Tenn.; brother, Paul Greene of Burlington, Mass.; three grandchildren, Scott E. Hubbard and wife, Gina, of Stillwater, Okla., Stephanie L. Kniffin and husband, Chris, of Antioch, Tenn. and John R. Hawes of Bangor; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alyssa and Colby; one niece, Caroly Mor; three nephews, Tom Long, Ben Long and Paul S. Greene; and long-time friend, Rita Ramel of New Zealand. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Long. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at the Penobscot Nursing Home for the exceptional care they have given Bill over the past years. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, June 26, at the East Blue Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Hutchins officiating.
