WINTERPORT – William Leander Harnish, 73, husband of Norma (Southard) Harnish, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family March 29, 2004, at his home in Winterport. He was born May 18, 1930, in Bangor, the son of William L. Harnish Sr. and Isabelle (Jollymore) Harnish. William had worked at Silver’s Auto Parts in Orono before his retirement. He enjoyed stockcar racing and as a family he and his sons, Billy and David, enjoyed going to races for 28 years. He was always the mechanic and pit crew chief. William is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma, of Winterport; three sons, David L. Harnish and wife, Susan, of Winterport, William L. Harnish III and his wife, Becky, of Winterport, and Ronald A. Harnish of Florida; four brothers, Henry F. Harnish of Winterport, Irving H. Harnish and Leslie Harnish, both of Massachusetts, and Daniel Harnish of Winterport; three sisters, Elizabeth Albert of Winterport, Joyce Reynolds of Enfield, Conn., and Patricia Lawrence of Bangor; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport, later in the spring, at a date and time to be announced.
