ANDERSON, S.C. – Winifred M. Martin, 79, passed away May 24, 2008, at Hospice of the Upstate, Anderson, S.C., after a brief illness. Winifred was born Jan. 5, 1929, in Brewer, daughter of the late Gladys Murray and Herrick Murray. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard J, Martin of Anderson, S.C.; two sons, Richard J. Martin Jr. and wife, Cheryl, of Portsmouth, R.I., and Stephen Martin and wife, Debbie, of Huntersville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Chris Martin of Washington, D.C., Monique Martin of Portsmouth, R.I., Kate Martin of Huntersville, N.C., and Cori Martin, also of Huntersville, N.C. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Helene Cassidy. A funeral service and final interment will take place in Brewer later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Winifred’s name to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
