SKOWHEGAN – Sylvia Ann Hill, 72, died Sept. 29, 2008, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. She was born Jan. 15, 1936, in Skowhegan, the daughter of William and Althea (Rae) Lessard. She married Bruce Hill, April 19, 1954, in Skowhegan. Sylvia was educated in the schools of Skowhegan and a graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing, Waterville, in 1980. As a young woman, Sylvia worked several years at Central Maine Power Co., Skowhegan. She later worked more than 15 years at Redington Fairview General Hospital, Skowhegan, as a nurse and switchboard operator retiring in the mid-1990s. Sylvia was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Skowhegan, communicant of Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church of Skowhegan and was lector of the church. Sylvia enjoyed every day of her life, but most of all she enjoyed the time she had with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Bruce Hill of Skowhegan; a son, Michael Hill and wife, Sheri, of Glenburn; three daughters, Elizabeth Hutchins and husband, Roger, of Canaan, Deborah Salewski of West Cumberland, Mass., and Patricia Caswick of Miami; three grandsons, Jason Hutchins of Canaan, Christopher Hill and wife, Nyla, of Titusville, Fla., and Aaron Caswick of Miami; six granddaughters, Christie Jones of Providence, R.I., Lisa Schafer and husband, William, of Coral Gables, Fla., Heather Rawding and husband, Arthur, of Portland, Julie Plourde and husband, Philip, of Naples, Fla., Rachel Caswick of Miami and Brittany Hill of Glenburn; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Sandra (Lessard) Miller; a nephew, Jeff; and a niece, Jennifer. Visitation hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Adams Chapel of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Notre Dame De Lourdes Catholic Church of Skowhegan, with Father Bruce Siket, celebrant.
