FORT FAIRFIELD – Arthur W. Chapman, 87, husband of Marion L. (Argraves) Chapman, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, Oct. 5, 2008, at his residence. He was born March 31, 1921, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Everett W. and Rose Ann (Chambers) Chapman. He attended Fort Fairfield schools, was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II and was married to Marion L. Argraves, June 7, 1945. Arthur owned and operated A. W. Chapman and Sons Plumbing and Heating from 1957 until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield and while residing in Florida during the winter months, he attended the Lake and Forest Club, Forest Center, Fla. Arthur dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will be always remembered by his family as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by three brothers, Royce, Leo and Floyd Chapman; and two sisters, Honor Hale and Ruby LaForge. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Marion L. Chapman; two sons and daughters-in-law, William D. and Sandra Y. Chapman, and Dana W. and Sandra F. Chapman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca M. and Clifton S. “Butch” Brook, and Trudy A. and David R. O’Neal, all of Fort Fairfield; seven grandchildren, TaJuana A. “Tonnie” Smyth, Crystal V. “Vikki” Donnelly, Deborah L. Peters, William J. “BJ” Chapman, Travis L. Brook, Jason R. Brook and Joel D. Brahim; seven great-grandchildren, Veronica Dougherty, Katy E. Jones, Matthew Donnelly, Jeramiah B. Brook, John W. M. Peters, Logan D. Peters and Noah C. Brahim; several nieces and nephews. Arthur will be remembered fondly by a special brother-in-law, Thomas C. Hricak; and many special friends, including Melvin Kelley and Robert Durost. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately after the interment service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Chapman to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, care of Gloria Towle, P.O. Box 737, Fort Fairfield, ME 04742. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
