HAMPDEN – Corey Walter O’Brien, 23, passed away Oct. 3, 2008, as the result of an accident while doing what he enjoyed most, spending time outdoors. Corey was born Nov. 6, 1984, in Bangor, the son of Paul Michael and Susan Carpenter O’Brien. Corey grew up in Hampden, where he attended school and graduated from Hampden Academy, Class of 2003. Corey continued his education at Johnson State College and at the University of Maine -Farmington. He worked tirelessly co-owning and operating a landscaping business in Bar Harbor, and will always be remembered as a hard worker and as a person who played even harder. Corey often helped out at his grandparent’s Christmas tree farm in Old Town. He had a passion for skiing at Sugarloaf and white water kayaking the rivers of Maine. Corey’s quiet demeanor was in contrast to his adventurous spirit. Corey will be remembered for his infectious smile, calm manner and as a loving son, brother, grandson and friend to all. Corey is survived by his loving parents, Paul Michael and Susan Carpenter O’Brien of Hampden; sister, Kelly Margaret O’Brien of Old Town; his much loved girlfriend, Jennie Gallant of Hampden and their faithful canine companion, Kona; maternal grandparents, Walter and Elaine Carpenter of Orono; aunts and uncles, Nancy and George Putnam and their children, Brian, Emily and Laura, all of Jeffersonville, Vt., Ellen and Mike LaChance of Brewer and their children, Erin of Bangor and Katie of Brewer, Maura O’Brien and children, Jeb and Aaron, all of Alaska, Julie and Jerry Chiarell of Whitefield, Steve and Julianne O’Brien and their children, Evan, Ian and Morgan, all of Orefield, Pa.; Janet O’Brien of Owls Head and Mark O’Brien of Brewer; as well as friends, too numerous to mention. Corey was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Paul and Carolyn O’Brien. Family and friends are invited to visit 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A memorial service to celebrate Corey’s life will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Seamus Griesbach, celebrant. Family and friends are invited downstairs in the parish hall after the funeral service to share in refreshments and a continued time of remembrance.
