RICHFORD, Vt. – Huestus Alvin Smith, 95, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Oct. 4, 2008, with his loving family by his side, at his home. He was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Richford/Stevens Mills, Vt., the son of the late Herman and Fannie (Davis) Smith. Hue was a highly respected woodsman, logger, timber cruiser and maple sugar maker. He was mainly self-employed working in Vermont and Maine. In his early years he worked for Sweat – Comings Furniture Co., Richford, Vt. He was a member of Richford United Methodist Church, Richford Cemetery Association and a 74-year member of Richford Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his sons, Herman Smith and his fianc?e, Cindy Blake, of Satsuma, Fla., Owen Smith and his wife, June, of Enfield and Dale Smith and his wife, Peggy, of Richford, Vt.; his grandchildren, Steven Smith and Guy Kittell, both of Maine, Huestus “Allen” Smith of Florida, Tracy Cousinoi, Holly Smart, Troy Smith, all of Maine, Jessica Boone of Richford, Vt., Yvonne Costello of Virginia, Mo Hall of Maryland, Kelley Ireland of West Virginia and Nadine Rinehart of Massachusetts; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Kelley of North Carolina and Martha McAllister of Richford; numerous nieces, nephews and honorary family members. In addition to his parents, Hue was predeceased by his wife, Orpha Beatrice (Coons) Smith, Nov. 6, 1987. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Juliette Wing, Irene Selby and Edith Selby; his brothers, Addison “Bunk” Smith, Lucius “Billy” Smith and Sheridan Smith; and grandson, Mark Hall. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Richford United Methodist Church, Church Street, Richford, Vt., with the Rev. Heidi Reinker officiating. Interment will be afterward at Richford Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, Vt.
