ROBERT W. MARTIN

LONGVIEW, Texas – Robert W. Martin, 66, formerly of Orrington, died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Portland Maine Medical Center. Robert was born in Portland, the son of Wesley and Beverly F. Martin. Robert was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1960. He received his bachelor’s degree in forestry, a master’s degree in pulp and paper from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1965 and his master’s in business from Frostburg College, Frostburg, Md. He married Linda Crawford, Aug. 17, 1963. He worked in pulp and paper management in the U. S. and Canada for 33 years, retiring in 1997. His favorite pastime was polka dancing, running and traveling in their American Coach motor home. He was an avid American Coach member from 2000 to his time of death, and was affiliated with the Mid-Atlantic and South Central Chapter of American Coach Association. He loved building furniture for the grandchildren, fishing and spending time with his family on the lake. Bob was known for the generous giving of his time, labor and skill to others by improving not only their homes or special projects, but also their lives. Robert was predeceased by his father, Wesley Martin in 1992; and niece, Laura Vogel in 2007. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda Martin; daughters, Deborah Cowart and husband, Cpt. Robert, of Longview, Texas, and Denise Evans and husband, Jay, of Pineville, La.; four grandchildren, Kailey Cowart, Molly Cowart, Hayden Evans and Morgan Evans; mother, Beverly Martin of Cape Elizabeth; brother, Lawrence Martin and wife, Charlene, of Alton, N.H., sister, Beth Vogel and husband, Monty, of Standish; sister, Diane Martin of Cape Elizabeth; along with many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Cape Elizabeth United Methodist Church.
