TRENTON — A 59-year-old Tremont man was killed Friday night when the van he was driving struck two vehicles parked on the side of Route 3.
The 2005 Chrysler van was traveling south on Route 3 in Trenton when for some unknown reason it drifted across the northbound lane striking the two parked vehicles, according to investigating officer Lt. Timothy Cote of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
“The operator and only occupant of the van died at the scene,” Cote reported in a news release issued at about midnight.
The release indicated that the state medical examiner’s office would have to determine whether the victim died from injuries suffered in the accident or from a medical condition that may have caused it.
The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of family.
Deputies Corey Bagley, Jeffrey Turcotte and Jeffrey McFarland as well as members of the Trenton Fire Department and County Ambulance assisted at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
