BANGOR – Barbara Lucille Collins, 80, died Oct. 11, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Bath, the daughter of Myron E. and Florence T. (Barnes) Young. Barbara graduated from Rockland High School, Class of 1946; attended Eastern College, St. Davids, Pa.; and graduated as a registered nurse from Eastern Maine General Hospital, Class of 1949. She was a member for 50 years of Essex Street Baptist Church, a place that was very dear to her heart. Barbara was a member of the choir and several ladies groups such as the Missionaires and the Sunshine Class. In her later years, she enjoyed playing cards with her many close friends, including the “Jolly Cards.” Barbara particularly enjoyed spirited games of hand and foot. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Forget Me Not Chapter No. 127, South Thomaston. Barbara enjoyed going for a ride in her later years with a stop to eat along the way. She was predeceased by her parents; and by her husband, Edward M. Collins, whom she married in Rockland, in 1958. She is survived by her children, Edward Collins and wife, Kaye, of Lehi, Utah, Janet Briggs and husband, Rick, of Hampden, Judith A. Collins of Bangor; a sister, Elinor Barnes and husband, Raymond, of Rockland; grandchildren, Shaun Briggs and companion, Rebecca Beaumont, Ashley Briggs, Colby, Parker and Reed Collins; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and her dear canine friends, Toby and Sandy. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Essex Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Wilbur officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the fellowship hall after the service. Interment will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Ocean View Cemetery, Spruce Head Road, South Thomaston.
