WINIFRED (KNOWLEN) IRELAND – LINCOLN – Winifred (Knowlen) Ireland, 90, wife of the late Coburn Ireland, died Oct. 15, 2008, at a Lincoln nursing home. She was born July 19, 1918, in Masardis, the daughter of Charles Freeman and Gertrude Emma (Hawkins) Knowlen. Winifred enjoyed working at the cleaners on Main Street in Lincoln for many years. She was a member of Lincoln Center Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was active in Sunday school for many years and wanted all boys and girls to know Jesus. Although she never had any children of her own she was loved by her many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Wilma and Earl Jipson, Aubrey and Betty Knowlen, and Charlie and Beverly Knowlen; great-nieces and great-nephews, Doug and Mary Shorey, Rusty and Pat Burnham, Mary Willette, Rhonda Dyer, Glen Shorey, Jimmy and Barb Dill, Gayland Lancaster, Karen and Larry Rollins, Sue Tirotta, Jeff and Sue Bemis, Greg Bemis, Scott and Elaine Knowlen, Brett and Diane Knowlen, Wendy and Brian Tasker and Tonya and Chad Perkins. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor William Bewell officiating. Interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery.
