KITTERY, Maine — The Navy’s newest nuclear submarine, the USS New Hampshire, is due to arrive at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery on Sunday and the community is ready for a big welcome.
The sub is being greeted by a grand boat parade, kicking off a week of activities to celebrate its commissioning next Saturday.
The committee organizing the events anticipated the sub would arrive on Tuesday, but learned Friday that the Navy was sending the New Hampshire into port earlier.
Portsmouth is the sub’s host community and is planning everything from the parade to a cookout and concert.
