BELFAST – Louise A. Mixon, 93, died Oct. 15, 2008, in Belfast. She was born April 14, 1915, in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of Dr. Martin E. and Ida (Malaney) Adamo. Louise attended private Catholic schools and graduated at age 16 from Notre Dame High School, Boston. After graduation, Louise moved to New York City to study acting. After a stint in New York, Louise returned to Boston, where she and her father managed a drug store at Statler Hotel for many years. Louise married Thomas Mixon, Aug. 21, 1943. She moved around for many years as she followed her husband from coast to coast while he served in the Marines. When Tom retired from the Marines, the couple moved to the Cape. In the early ’70s, Louise and Tom moved to Maine and built a home with the encouragement of Louise’s old high school friend, Cissie Grady. Cissie’s three daughters have become the very involved caretakers of the couple. Louise enjoyed knitting, embroidery, rug hooking, traveling and reading. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Harbor Hill Library. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Louise’s memory to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Maine Affiliate, 11 Cumberland St., Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
