NEWPORT – Zelda M. Peirce, 83, died peacefully Oct. 19, 2008, with her family by her side, at a Pittsfield health care facility. She was born July 6, 1925, in Corinna, the daughter of George and N. Maude (Pomroy) Metivier. Zelda attended Corinna schools and was a graduate of Newport High School, Class of 1942. Zelda was employed as a nanny for several families in Massachusetts and for the Gilman family in Newport for several years. She worked for doctors Charles and Sarah Simpson, and she worked at Buds, Newport. For the past 50 years, she has been a homemaker and bookkeeper for Lyle Peirce Inc., Newport. She was a member of Peoples United Methodist Church, Newport, a former Sunday school teacher and very active in all the church activities. She was a member and past president of Newport Woman’s Club. Zelda loved her family and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always enjoyed meeting daily with her friends and her summer rides in her convertible. Zelda is survived by her husband of 51 years, Lloyd W. Peirce of Newport; two sons, Terry “Brick” Nelson and his wife, Poppy, of Wilbraham, Mass., and Lyle D. Peirce II of Newport; one daughter and her husband, Roberta “Bobbie,” and Tony Bryson of East Wilton; one brother and his wife, Dennis and Joanne Metivier of Corinna; one sister and her husband, Gerry and Wade Richardson of Plymouth; seven grandchildren, John, Matthew, Carrie, Trent, Lyle III, Andrew and Adam; five great-grandchildren, Jack, Laura, Evan, Mark and Emily Lyn; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by an infant son, John; two brothers, Ralph Metivier and Gilbert Adams; and a sister, Dale Flint. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
