OLD TOWN – George E. Mossey, 80, died peacefully Oct. 21, 2008, at an Orono health care facility. He was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Old Town, the only son of Thomas and Iva (Bell) Mossey. George was employed by Bangor and Aroostook Railroad for 33 years, working as a damage prevention supervisor. He participated in the “Operation Life Saver” program, bringing railroad safety to many of the local schools. He was a member of Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 1287 of Old Town. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and his property in Greenfield. After his retirement, George found a new interest and honed his skills in woodworking. He was a past president of Kukunsook Camp Owners Association of Pushaw Lake. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa (Lyon) Mossey; a daughter, Peggy O’Meara of Old Town; a grandson, Tom O’Meara and his fianc’e, Alisha, of Old Town; a great-grandson, Alec; brother-in-law, Rupert Lyon and his wife, Muriel, of Glenburn; and a special best friend, Marian Beaulieu of Bangor. There will be no formal funeral services. George will be interred in the family lot at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to cancer research in care of a cancer charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
