BAILEYVILLE and BANGOR Marie E. Oakes, 62, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, with her family by her side, at a Calais hospital. She was born June 7, 1946, the daughter of Elwin and Anna Curtis. She enjoyed playing Playstation 2, watching soap operas and Lifetime Movie Network. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda L. Dube and her husband, Darrick, and Ella Kneeland and her husband, Norman; five grandchildren, Dwayne, Cassandra, Brandie, JJ and Amanda; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Kaneshia, Brandon and Bianca; three brothers; niece, Letaa; and three sisters-in-law. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Hollis; son, Gardner A. Whalen Jr.; two sisters, Violet Curtis and Margaret Ann Curtis; two brothers, Chester and Earol; and one sister-in-law. A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Oakes residence, 68A Summitt St., Baileyville.
