BANGOR and HAMPDEN – Bertha Catherine Lagrange died Oct. 26, 2008, after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Jackman, the daughter of Polycarpe and Marie (Daigle) Richard. She attended schools in Canada and New York, and graduated from Thomas Business School, Waterville. With her husband, Richard, Bertha retired to Florida and spent summers at their home on Great Pond, Rome, Maine. She returned to Maine after Richard’s death. Bertha had great dignity and a courageous spirit. Surviving are her children, June and her husband, Michael Baldacci, Donald and his wife, Penny Lagrange, Paul and his wife, Peggy Lagrange, Gisele and her husband, Robert Pagano; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Angelina Hubert; sister-in-law, Juliette Richard; brother-in-law, Robert Lagrange; sister-in-law, Jeanine Logan; cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard in 1998; sister, Rose Roy; and brother, Ernest Richard. Bertha’s family thanks the staff of Sylvia Ross Home for their compassionate and loving care during her stay there. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Hampden. Interment will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Waterville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sylvia Ross Activities Fund, 44 Ohio St., Bangor, ME 04401 or a charity of one’s choice.
