CARIBOU – Beryl T. Lombard, 89, wife of the late Vaughn Lombard, died Oct. 27, 2008, in Mars Hill. She was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Presque Isle, daughter of the late Frank and Mabel (Hammond) Tompkins. She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, and was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Lombard was a member of the Elizabeth Chapter Order of Eastern Star, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was an active member of Women’s Bowling League. She was a 50-year member of Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of United Methodist Women’s group. Beryl loved spending time with her family and friends at the family cottage on Madawaska Lake, and in 1976 she and Vaughn made it their home, where she also became a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Stockholm. She was an avid bridge player and never missed the daily newspaper crossword puzzle. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lynn Lombard of Caribou; her daughter, Janice Lombard of Hampden; one sister, Florence Rogers of Dolphin Isle, Ala.; five grandchildren, Rick, Kevin and Frank Leavitt, Julie Watt and her husband, Daryn, and Matthew Lombard; three great-grandchildren, Samantha and Benjamin Leavitt and Jackson Watt; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lombard was predeceased by her husband, Vaughn in 1997; two brothers, Alec and Sydney Tompkins; two sisters, Marjorie and Wilma Tompkins; a granddaughter, Shelli Jean Lombard; and a son-in-law, Robert Mitchell. Friends may call 11 a.m. until the time of service 1 p.m. Saturday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with Mary Lou Brown, longtime family friend, officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
