HANCOCK – John H. Becht Jr. passed away peacefully Oct. 28, 2008, with his family by his side. He was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Basking Ridge, N.J. John graduated from Bernards High School in 1945 and then immediately served in the U.S. Army until 1947. He married his beloved wife, Eleanor in 1950. He went to work in the Basking Ridge Post Office as a mail carrier and became their first civil service employee in the mail carrier division. He worked there for 14 years and then transferred to Bangor, where he worked until he retired in 1982. He loved boating and living on Frenchmen’s Bay with his wife of 57 years. Most recently, he enjoyed dining at Chester Pike’s Gallery, Sullivan and socializing with his many friends. John is survived by his son, John H. Becht III and his wife, Tina; and many nieces and nephews. At the family’s request, services will be private.
