FORT FAIRFIELD – Robert E. Durost Sr., 85, husband of the late Ella M. (Argraves) Durost, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at his residence. He was born March 23, 1923, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Charles W. and Millie A. (Everett) Durost. He attended local schools and was married to Ella M. Argraves, Nov. 3, 1945. Robert and Ella were residents of Sterling, Mass., for more than 35 years. He was employed by Hill Machine Co., Worcester, Mass., for more than 30 years, and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield. Robert enjoyed fishing and gardening, and will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ella, Dec. 15, 2006; two sons, Ronald and John W. Durost; one daughter, Gloria Durost; three brothers, John, Walter and Clifford Durost; and two sisters, Lulu Durost and Helen Clark. He is survived by two sons, Robert E. Durost Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Lancaster, Mass., and Wayne D. Durost of Limestone; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Orin and Phyllis Durost of Mill Hall, Pa., and Arnold and Muriel Durost of Presque Isle; five grandchildren, Susanne Durost Tremblay of Belleview, Wash., Sandra Durost of Huberston, Mass., Melanie Durost, Robert E. Durost III and Ronnie Durost, all of Lancaster, Mass.; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Edmund “Buddy” Argraves Jr. and Gordon Argraves, both of Tinker, New Brunswick; one sister-in-law, Irene Pierce of Auburn, Mass.; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special nephew Jimmy Greenier of Mapleton. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will take place immediately after the funeral service at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the interment service at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
