VAN BUREN – Claude J. Tardif, 94, died Nov. 21, 2008, at a Caribou hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1914, in Van Buren, the son of Levy and Flavie (Morrow) Tardif. Mr. Tardif was employed in the lumber industry for many years and also worked at Viner Shoe Co., and Loring Air Force Base for a number of years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Leona (Rossignol) Tardif of Van Buren; seven children, Rudolph “Percy” Tardif and his wife, Mary, of Presque Isle, Robert Tardif and his wife, Jackie, of Van Buren, Claudette Standing and her companion, Ben Roy, of St. David, Richard Tardif of Lisbon, James Tardif and his wife, Carol, of Penobscot, Clayton Tardif and his wife, Carrie, of Topsham and Russell Tardif and his wife, Darylin, of Van Buren; 23 grandchildren, Margaret McPherson and husband, Philip, Karen Seeley and husband, Joey, Brenda Tardif, Paula Vick and husband, Bryan, Vicki Doebener and husband, Gary, Janice Dionne and husband, Jim, Cindy Hebert and husband, Paul, Dean Standing, Michelle Tardif and partner, Jen Capalbo, Mark Tardif, Jeff Tardif and wife, Deidre, Jeremy Tardif and wife, Kelsie, Jamie Tardif and wife, Caitlin, Melissa Bobalek and husband, Ed, Cary Tardif and wife, Meredith, Shawn Tardif and companion, Nicole, Chris Tardif and wife, Tasha, Aaron Tardif, Joshua Michael Tardif, Josh-Luke Tardif, Richard Tardif, Lori MacWhinnie and husband, Randy, and Lyn Rioux; and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Rudolph Tardif, Corrine Gagnon, Annette Soucy, Bernadette LeBlanc, Albert Tardif, Elmer Tardif and Lionel Tardif; a son-in-law, Daniel Standing; and by two granddaughters, Jessica Tardif and Tracy Tardif. In keeping with Mr. Tardif’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church.
