PEMBROKE – Donald S. Kilby, 87, died Nov. 18, 2008, at Calais Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1921, in Perry, the son of Woodbury and Persis (Smith) Kilby. He was a wonderful husband, father, son and uncle, who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was employed at local sardine factories, Guilford Woolen Mill and Ganong’s Egg Farm. He operated a small farm and enjoyed raising and trading livestock. In recent years, he was manager of Country View Apartments, Pembroke. He had many hobbies including carpentry, woodworking, leather-crafts and working on his model horse collection. Earlier in life he was active in harness racing and was a member of Pembroke Trotting Association. Throughout his life, he loved animals small and large. He was predeceased by his first wife, Harriett (Matthews) Kilby; his parents; and 12 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Norma Kilby of Pembroke; son, John Kilby and his wife, Rachael; grandchildren, Madeline and Isaiah; four stepchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke.
