BLUE HILL – Maurice D. Gordon, 78, died peacefully Nov. 22, 2008, surrounded by her family. She was born May 9, 1930, in Bucksport, the daughter of Elmer and Dorathea (McAlister) Duren. Maurice worked for the Weekly Packet, Blue Hill, for more than 20 years, at the switchboard for Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and billing department at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. Maurice was an integral part of Blue Hill Fair, Arts and Crafts area starting in 1979 and became the superintendent in 1989. This was one of the greatest pleasures Maurice enjoyed for many years. She also enjoyed working at the voting polls, where she got to see everyone that had been a part of the life she loved so much in Blue Hill. Maurice looked forward to her morning meetings with her friends at the pantry in Blue Hill, as well as going to yard sales and collecting frogs. She was also an expert knitter and many friends and family enjoyed the gifts she made. She is survived by daughters, Suzanne Chaney, and Cindy Ramsdell and husband, Allen, all of Blue Hill; sons, Timothy Gordon of Ellsworth and Danny Gordon and wife, Diane, of Blue Hill; grandchildren, Patrick Allen, Scarlet Ramsdell, Tiffany Jensen, Lynnie Dall Ramsdell and Jared Gordon; sister, Ruth Gray of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clarence Gordon; and grandson, Tyson Veysey. A celebration of her life will be held 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St., Blue Hill. A private interment will be held at Seaside Cemetery, Blue Hill, in the spring.
