BANGOR – Vincent Miller Wood passed away Dec. 6, 2008, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Bangor, the son of the late Ashley and Margaret Wood Sr. Vincent graduated from Bangor High School and attended Husson College. He worked at the Bangor Daily News for three years as a stereotype setter until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served three years in France and in England as a crew chief on a B-26 Bomber and held the rank of tech sergeant. He also attended technical schools in Europe. Vincent worked for Mobil Oil Co., for 35 years, until his retirement in 1980. He later worked for Bennett’s Wholesale Florist, Brewer, for 10 years. Vincent enjoyed working in his garden and keeping the grounds around his home in perfect condition, in which he took great pride. He loved to travel and enjoyed the Saturday Nighters. Vincent is survived by his loving wife, Sophie H. Wood; a sister-in-law, Amelia M. Shaboski, both of Bangor; brothers-in-law, Stanley, Francis and James Shaboski and his wife, Dorothy; many nieces and nephews, with whom he played cards and other games. Vincent was a devout communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Family and friends may visit 2-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor, with a time of continued fellowship immediately afterward in the church center.
