STOCKTON SPRINGS – Leola D. Shute, 83, passed away peacefully Dec. 6, 2008, surrounded by her family, at a Belfast hospital. She was born Jan. 29, 1925, in St. Francis, the daughter of Levite and Emelia (Ouellette) Dubay. She graduated from Crosby High School, Belfast, Class of 1943. Leola married her husband, Frederick P. Shute, June 30, 1944. In her early years, Leola worked in area factories and Red Top Cafe. She was the tax collector for the town of Stockton Springs for many years. Leola is survived by her son, Perry L. Shute of Stockton Springs; her daughter, Lisa S. Tripp and her husband, Michael, of Frankfort; two special granddaughters, Emily and Kallie, both of Frankfort; several nieces, nephews and friends, including special nieces, Cheryl, Patrice, Lori and Laverne; and aunt, Julienne Ouellette. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Frederick P. Shute, May 20, 2002; and by eight brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Father Joseph Korey officiating. Spring interment will be at Sandy Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in her memory may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation, attention: Accounting Department, 8301 Professional Place, Landover, MD 20785-7223.
