BANGOR and ORRINGTON Matilda M. Giles, wife of the late Byron H. Giles, died Dec. 10, 2008, at her home in Bangor. She was born in Orrington, the daughter of Maurice and Helen (Smith) Dunton. She was a graduate of Brewer High School. As a mother of five children, she was nurse, housekeeper and cook. She enjoyed nature by bird watching, hiking, canoeing, fishing and photography. Surviving are three children, Catherine Richards, Dwight Giles and Dana Giles, all of Florida; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband; one son, Byron F. Giles; a daughter, Cynthia (Giles) Sudheimer; and two brothers, Forrest and Adelbert Dunton. She also leaves special friends and neighbors, Eddie Poole, Mark and Janet, Herb and Nola, Judy and Don Sawyer, Lillian Goss and Mary Bowden. The Wardwells, Hincks and Hanscom families were lifelong friends. The Dunton nieces and Hampden cousins she loved so much touched her life in many different ways. A graveside service will be held noon Monday, Dec. 15, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Orrington, with the Rev. David Bean, pastor of Beacon of Hope Church of God, Bangor, officiating.
