WATERVILLE – Evelin H.S. McDonough, 88, of 38 Columbia Road, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, after a long illness. She was born Feb. 21, 1920, in West Enfield, the daughter of Isaac and Rose (Cunningham) Smith. She graduated from Bangor High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Farmington State College, Class of 1963. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Waterville. Her teaching career spanned 46 years. She taught in Great Pond, Levant, Newport, Augusta and the remaining 30 years in Waterville as a second grade teacher. Also during her 46-year career, she, along with her husband, M. Joseph Mc-Donough, co-founded Sunmount School, Santa Fe, N.M. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, M. Joseph McDonough. Survivors include her son, John McDonough Sr. and his wife, Faye, of Kittery; her grandchildren, Erin Mason and her husband, McKeed, John McDonough Jr. and his partner, Stephen Trumble, and Sean McDonough; one great-grandchild, Draiden Mason; several nieces and nephews. The family thanks all of her friends, neighbors and community who meant so much to Evelin, Dee Dee as they called her, who in turn will always remember her loving and caring spirit. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Waterville.
