Meet Robert — better known as Nick. Nick, born in 1997, is an intelligent young man with a wonderful sense of humor. He is somewhat shy, but he has a great personality. Nick enjoys playing video games, but also enjoys playing and watching sports. His favorite sports to play are basketball and kickball. Nick wants a family with an older brother, but he also does well with younger children. Nick definitely wants a family that will be there for him no matter what happens.
Nick attends public school and does fairly well there. He really likes math and says that school is “fun!” Nick also likes to read and often will go to his room to read when he needs some time to himself. This has become a very positive coping strategy for him.
He likes to work with his hands and has become quite handy. He has used hammers and screwdrivers to take apart a large swing set at his current placement. He also built a birdhouse that came out very well. He was very proud of it and showed it off to those around him. Nick hopes to be able to take an industrial arts class in school soon.
Nick needs a family that will fall in love with the incredible young man he is, provide him with much love and acceptance, and continue to support him as he works through some of his past experiences and losses.
Nick is one of 153 children in Maine Department of Health and Human Services care who are seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
