LINCOLN – Ellery F. Dow, 91, husband of the late Catherine Louise (McGuff) Dow, died peacefully Dec. 22, 2008, surrounded by his family at Penobscot Valley Hospital, Lincoln. He was born Jan. 23, 1917, in Calais, the son of the late George and Alice (Williams) Dow. Ellery graduated from Princeton High School, Class of 1935, and attended Burdett Business College, Lynn, Mass. He was the manager of construction and transportation for Standard Packaging, Eastern Woodlands for many years. He formed and was co-owner of Woodland Services, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Forest Lodge No. 148, AF & AM. He enjoyed boxing, was an avid Yankee fan and loved his Boston terriers. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, George and Lloyd; twin brother and sister, Earl and Pearl; and a sister, Elva McLaughlin. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara E. Sprague and her husband, John, of Weathersfield, Vt., and Julie A. Yost and her husband, Douglas, of Lincoln; one son, Stephen R. Dow and his wife, Tammy, of Calais; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to Penobscot Valley Hospital, P.O. Box 368, Lincoln, ME 04457.
