ELLSWORTH, Maine — A woman lost control of her Nissan Xterra SUV and hit a tree on Bucksport Road on Saturday morning, causing no major injuries but an estimated $12,000 in damage to the vehicle, according to police reports.

Sgt. Glenn Moshier of the Ellsworth Police Department said that Maureen Whalley might have hit black ice at 8:45 a.m. as she was driving west toward Bucksport.

“She started to fishtail, lost control, overcorrected, went over the embankment and into a tree,” Moshier said. A boy in the car with her complained of chest pains, but the injuries did not appear serious, he said.
