FORT FAIRFIELD – Marion A. (Nelson) Reed, 77, died Saturday morning, Dec. 27, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at a Caribou health care facility, after an extended illness. She was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Rochford) Nelson. Marion was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1949, was Winter Carnival Queen in 1949 and was a communicant of St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, Marion was predeceased by two brothers, Philip J. and Lawrence Nelson. She is survived by five sons, Ralph Reed and his wife, Kathy, of Ocean Park, Jonathan Reed and his wife, Robin, Thomas Reed, all of Saco, Paul Reed and Jason Reed, both of Fort Fairfield; four brothers, Ralph Nelson, John Nelson and Kenneth Nelson, all of Fort Fairfield and Peter Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Marge Smith and her husband, Gary, of Portland; six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. At the request of her family, calling hours will be private. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Spring interment will take place at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Marion to Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral service. Arrangements are in the care of Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
