BANGOR – Melvin C. Ramsey, 84, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, in Bangor. He was born June 10, 1924, in Brewer, son of Charles L. and Vernis (Worcester) Ramsey. Melvin served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended barber school and cut hair for 42 years, retiring from his own barbershop in South Brewer in 1988. Mel was a member of Columbia Street Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and member of the men’s Danforth Class for many years. Melvin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Isabelle E. (Doucette) Ramsey of Bangor; his children, James M. and his wife, Tina, of Georgia, Crystal L. and her husband, Maynard Otis, of Hermon, Debra J. and her husband, Michael Clark, of Houlton and Nancy Jo Thompson of Ohio; three grandchildren, Eric Ramsey and his wife, Melissa, of Palmyra, Jessica and her husband, Scott Bays, of Texas and Ryan Otis of Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Breanna, Kylie and Nathan Bays, Robbie, Samantha, Aaron and Emma Ramsey; his brother, Edmund Ramsey of California; two sisters, Phyllis Fowler of Bangor and Marilyn and her husband, George Fidler, of Brewer; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Red Fowler. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. with the Rev. Peter Sprague, pastor of Columbia Street Baptist Church, officiating.
