BANGOR – Edwin Harvey Roach died Jan. 1, 2009, at a Bangor nursing facility. Edwin was born April 5, 1918, in Springfield, Ohio. As an infant, Edwin, moved with his parents to Shaker Heights, Ohio. He later moved with his family to White Plains, N.Y., and attended high school there. After graduating he attended Ohio Wesleyan University. Edwin was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Home Office, Manhattan, N.Y., for 35 years. Ed was an avid carpenter. He purchased property in Middletown Springs, Vt., and built a retirement home there. It was enjoyed for many years by all the family. Ed and his wife moved to Rutland, Vt., for a short time and then to Bangor. Edwin is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Powell) Roach; a son, Richard L. Roach and his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Sally (Roach) Larrabee and her husband, Michael Larrabee; five grandchildren, David L. Roach and his wife, Irina, Christianne Roach, Roseanne (Larrabee) Gould and her husband, Jason Gould, Trevor Larrabee and Jeffrey Larrabee; and one great-grandson, Calvin Gould. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Jan. 24, at First United Methodist Church, Essex Street, Bangor. Interment will be at Middletown Springs Cemetery, Middletown Springs, Vt., later in the spring. Donations in Edwin’s memory may be made to Bangor Public Library or Eastern Maine Medical Center.
