LINCOLN – Leona “Nonie” McComb, 69, wife of Ronald F. McComb Sr., passed away Jan. 6, 2009, surrounded by her loving family after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 11, 1939, “on a potato farm in Chester,” number 12 of 13 children of Harry and Minnie (Ireland) Whitney. Nonie worked as a certified nurses aide, was a member of Sunshine Club, and was a participant in the Ladies Auxiliary of Lincoln Fire Department when it was active. In addition to her husband of 49 years, Ronald McComb Sr., she is survived by three sons, Ronald Jr. and Paulette, Scot and Robin, and Paul and Janice; grandchildren, Danny, Adrian and his wife, Amanda, Christina, April and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Daymion, Adrian Jr., Shawna, Logan, Austin, Jalen, Jenna and Camden; brothers and sisters, Don and Ida Whitney, Harlan and Pauline Whitney, Curtis and Nancy Whitney, Robert and Faye Whitney, Mabel Jordan and Erma Tash; a special sister-in-law, Marilyn Whitney; a special niece, Donna Shaw; her mother-in-law, Helen Hawkins, brother-in-law, Robert McComb Jr., sister-in-law, Linda and Brent Oliver; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Perley, Buddy, Charlie and Hollis; and sisters, Harriett and Irene. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating.
