BIDDEFORD, Maine — A head-on collision on the Maine Turnpike killed a Massachusetts driver Tuesday.
Maine State Police Trooper David Andreasen said investigators want to know why a northbound van crossed the median and collided with a southbound sport utility vehicle.
The van’s driver was ejected as the vehicle overturned and was killed when it landed on him.
Andreasen said southbound traffic on the turnpike came to a halt for about two hours as police investigated the wreck, which occurred about 10:30 a.m.
He said the van smashed into an SUV driven by Jennifer Farrar, 29, of Charlotte.
She and her four passengers were treated, then released from a local hospital.
Three of her passengers were children under the age of 6.
