ELLSWORTH – James A. Christian, 58, died unexpectedly Jan. 5, 2009, at his home. He was born April 25, 1950, in Worcester, Mass. James was a skilled machinist, worked on commercial fishing vessels and in multiple roles in boatyards. He was an able carpenter and completed certification courses in various fields such as welding, blueprint reading, marine engines and major appliance repairs, among others. He could fix any mechanical device, was a skilled heavy equipment operator and was a masterful recycler. He loved to learn new things and was a voracious reader who made good use of Ellsworth Public Library to expand his knowledge. He felt strongly about workers’ rights and recently became active with Eastern Maine Labor Council, Brewer. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Janice. James will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many friends, especially his best pals, James Adamson of Grafton, Mass., Craig Snelson of Orland and John Curtis of Surry. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at First Congregational Church, Ellsworth.
