WINDHAM, Maine — Maine officials are investigating a high-speed pursuit that ended with a car hitting a tree and breaking into two pieces in Windham.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department says the motorist, 24-year-old Devin Betty of Buxton, was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday night.
Officials say the chase began when a deputy attempted to stop a Nissan Maxima for speeding in Gray. The car slowed down but then sped away toward Windham. The chase continued until Betty lost control of the car while attempting to pass several vehicles.
