SMYRNA MILLS – Arthur G. Lyon Sr., 82, died Jan. 11, 2009, in Chattanooga, Tenn., from complications of heart surgery. He was born May 10, 1926, in Plymouth, Conn., to Milton G. Lyon and Sophie Ozahowski. He was raised in East Concord, Vt., graduated from Plainville High School in 1944 and was thrice decorated in World War II for service aboard the USS Cogswell. He married Marion Anne Treadwell of New York City, October 1946, in Plainville, Conn. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Shriner, where as a member of Sphinx Motor Patrol-he drove a miniature Jeep in parades across the country. An active member of Houlton Methodist Church, he was the owner of Forestville and Plainville Shell, Connecticut. He and his partners, Charles Aiken, Paul Brand, Brenda Thompson and son, John Lyon, provided auto service for 30 years. He raised his family in Plainville and Bristol, Conn., and Aurora, Colo., before retiring to Lunenberg, Vt., and Smyrna Mills. His kind heart will be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends. He is survived by his aunt, Marion Lyon; sister, Geraldine Cohen of Vermont; sister-in-law, Rose Lyon of Colorado; and his companion of many years, Brenda Thompson. He leaves two sons and their families, John K. Lyon and his wife, Mary and son, Frankie from Daytona, Fla., and daughters, Christine and Kelly of Florida; and son, Arthur G. Lyon Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, and his children, Heather and Arthur III of Connecticut. He also leaves five great-grandchildren. He leaves nieces and nephews, Mark, Milton III, Mary and Patricia, all from Aurora, Colo. He was predeceased by his brother, Milton Lyon Jr. of Castle Rock, Colo.; and by his sister, Helen O’Connor of Pittsfield, Mass. His son, John, will be arranging memorial services to be announced later.
