CANAAN – Ivory E. Burrill, 54, passed away Jan. 17, 2009, at his residence. He was born Nov. 25, 1954, in Hartland, the son of Ivory E. Burrill Sr., who died in 1981, and Dorothy (Tarbox) Burrill. He graduated from Skowhegan High School, Class of 1973. Ivory married the former Tammy Nichols, Aug. 1, 1998. He was owner and operator of Burrill’s Towing, Canaan, for many years. He started out operating Burrill’s Construction, Canaan, for six years, then went to work for Cianbro Corp., Pittsfield, for many years. Ivory was a member of Canaan Fire Department all of his adult life and received an award for Fire Fighter of the Decade. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and he enjoyed camping. Ivory also enjoyed watching football; and he loved spending time with his grandkids. Ivory is survived by his wife of 10 years, Tammy of Canaan; his son, Jeremy Burrill and his wife, Sonya, of China; his daughter, Teianna Littlefield and her husband, Harrison, of Benton; a stepson, Levi Pollis of Canaan; a stepdaughter, Logan Pollis of Canaan; two sisters, Opal Perkins of Fairfield and Sue Ann Buzzell and her husband, Dick, of Brunswick; two brothers, Schuyler “Sky” Burrill and his wife, Jackie, and Art Burrill and his wife, Diane, of Canaan; six grandchildren, Katrina, Ronnie, Colby, Emily, Kalie and Kyle; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Hester Perkins; and one brother, Leland Burrill. A visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Skowhegan Federated Church, Island Avenue, Skowhegan, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Burial will be afterward at Fairview Cemetery, Canaan. Arrangements are entrusted to Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. Donations may be made in Ivory’s memory to a volunteer fire department of your choice.
