EASTON and ROCKLAND – Marguerite Ann Foster, 101, wife of the late Roy Foster, passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 18, 2009, at a Bangor nursing facility. She was born Nov. 30, 1907, in Fort Fairfield, the eldest daughter of William and Ruth (Wiggins) Howard. She was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1925 and Aroostook Normal School, Presque Isle, Class of 1927. Marguerite taught at Pine Tree School, a one-room schoolhouse in Easton for several years. She was married to Roy Foster, in 1931 and was an accomplished, self-taught artist for much of her life, working in both oils and watercolors, with works displayed in various settings throughout the state and beyond. She was the original creator of the locally renowned “Chip Dodge Print” a print of Chip Dodge’s Service Station, Easton. Mrs. Foster also worked at Presque Isle Public Library and was the Fort Fairfield public librarian for 10 years. She was a resident of Rockland for more than 30 years, where she attended Aldersgate Methodist Church and worked at Rockland Public Library; however, Marguerite always considered Easton home and throughout her many years of residing there attended Easton Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roy, in 1966; and two sons, William and Philip Foster. Mrs. Foster is survived by one son, Stephen Foster of Ellsworth; two daughters, Molly Malcolm of Owls Head, and Joan Turner and her husband, Dan, of Easton; one sister, Doris Dow, formerly of Presque Isle and currently residing in Bangor; one daughter-in-law, Christa Foster of Bangor; a special cousin who Marguerite loved as a sister, Maxine Howard Perry of Fort Fairfield; 25 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Interment will take place later in the spring at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
