BELFAST – Doris I. Staples, 83, wife of the late Joseph D. Staples, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Waldo County General Hospital, Belfast. She was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Fayette, to Ralph and Sarah “Sadie” Newcomb Fellows. She spent her early years with her parents and siblings in Fayette and West Gardiner, later lived with her husband and children in Waldo and Belfast, and most recently had been a resident of Tall Pines Rehabilitation and Living Center, Belfast. She was employed for a time at Stinson Canning Co. and later at Bradbury Nursing Home, both in Belfast. She was an active member of Frederick Ritchie Grange, Waldo. Doris was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Joseph D. Staples, in 2005; great-grandson, Daniel Moors; two brothers, Hugh and Leon Fellows; and two sisters, Helen Fellows Gilbert and Alice Fellows Johnson. Surviving Doris are son, Dana R. and his wife, Denise Staples, of Beverly, Mass.; son, Richard J. and his wife, Deborah Staples, of Waterville and their three children, Elizabeth Staples of Somerville, Mass., Katherine and her husband, Patrick Burland, of Havertown, Pa., and Jonathan Staples of Waterville; son, Robert A. and his wife, Susan Staples, of Bangor and their two children, Rebecca and her husband, Joshua Moors, of Fort Hood, Texas, and Meredith Staples of Killeen, Texas; great-grandchildren, Allison, Brianna and Ryan Moors; brother, Clarence Fellows of West Gardiner; sisters, Elsie Fellows Emery of West Gardiner and Grace Fellows Burrell of Oakland; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with the Rev. Stephanie Salinas, pastor of First Baptist Church, Bangor, officiating. The family invites all to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the service.
