ENFIELD – Eleanor (Steeves) Enochs passed away peacefully Jan. 20, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Lincoln. She was born June 15, 1921, in Lincoln, the daughter of Walter and Villa Steeves. She graduated from Mattanawcook Academy and then moved to Lewiston to attend hairdressing school. From there, she moved to Portland, where she met her late husband, Donald Enochs. Eleanor devoted her life to her family and raising their four children. She also worked alongside her husband as a bookkeeper at their boat business, and then as owners of Lincoln House Motel for 10 years. She and her husband retired at an early age and split their time between their cottage at Cold Stream and their home in Zephyrhills, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Enochs; two brothers and a sister, Warren Steeves, Jerome Steeves and Louise Steeves. She is survived by her four children, Bob Enochs of Lincoln, Elaine Enochs of Gorham, Mary Jane Norton of Lincoln and JoAnn Whitten of Portland; her grandchildren, Billy Enochs, Linda Arnold, Donnie Enochs, Brendan Norton and Lily Whitten; and great-grandchildren, Bradley Arnold, Tyler Arnold and Sarah Enochs. She is also survived by brothers, Doug Steeves and his wife, Betty, of Lincoln and Ray Steeves of Florida; and her sister, Lois Stuart and her husband, David, of Yarmouth. The family expresses their gratitude towards Mary Jane Norton for the loving care she was able to provide for our mother. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Enfield Baptist Church. There will be a gathering for family and friends immediately afterward at the Waterfront, Lincoln.
