PALMYRA – John J. Martin, 90, died Jan. 19, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor, after a long illness. He was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Chicopee, Mass., the son of Maurice and Anna (Walch) Martin. He was educated in Chicopee, Mass., schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from October 1941 to November 1945. He married Ruth B. Stanley, April 11, 1946, in Jamaica Plain, Mass. John was a truck driver for Adley’s Express for many years. He attended St. Agnes Catholic Church, Pittsfield and St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth B. Martin of Palmyra; one son, Francis J. Martin of Palmyra; one sister, Mary Chappuis of Randolph, Mass.; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Feb. 2, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Pittsfield, with Father Mark Nolette officiating.
