BANGOR – John T. Karnes Jr., beloved husband, father and grampie, died Jan. 18, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 1, 1939, in Bangor, son of John T. and Bernice M. (Farrahar) Karnes Sr. He was a graduate of Bangor High School. He worked as a paper machine operator and supervisor, first at Eastern Fine Paper, Brewer and later at James River, Old Town, for a total of 37 years, until his retirement in 1996. Surviving are his devoted wife of 48 years, Barbara R. (Flynn) Karnes of Bangor; three children, Wendy Karnes Murray and her husband, Jason, of Hampden, Tracy Tatarcyk and her husband, Michael, of Bangor, and John T. Karnes III and his wife, Laurie, of Bangor; 10 grandchildren, Marissa Carr, Justine Carr, Morgan Karnes Murray, Kolina Douston, Kayla Douston Tatarcyk, Ashleigh Tatarcyk, Ryan Tatarcyk, Jesse Karnes, Collin Karnes and Maggie Karnes; two sisters, Suzanne Pearson of Corinna, and Janice Broad and her companion, Clint Van Aken, of Veazie and Florida; one niece, two nephews; and granddogs, Darby and Kito. Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, with the Rev. Mark Fowler, pastor of Community Church of the Open Door, Hampden, officiating. Spring interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. There will be a gathering in his honor after the ceremony in his “patio” aka garage, where the family gatherings that he so enjoyed have been held for many years.
