BELFAST, Maine — Drug agents and police raided a party at a downtown apartment house Friday night and arrested four participants on drug dealing and other charges.
“There was a lot of people there partying and getting ready to go out to the bars,” Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Sgt. James Pease said Sunday of the raid on Apartment 6 in the Abbott House on Church Street next door to the 5th District Court. “They were removed and four individuals were arrested.”
Shawn O’Brien, 23, renter of the apartment, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of OxyContin. He was booked at the Waldo County Jail and later released on $2,540 bail.
Michael Zambrano, 18, of Harlem, N.Y., was arrested and charged with unlawful trafficking in cocaine and importation of cocaine. He is being held at the county jail on $10,000 bail.
Joseph Garnett, 43, of Bronx, N.Y., was arrested and charged with unlawful trafficking in OxyContin and importation of OxyContin and cocaine. He was taken to the county jail and freed on $5,040 bail the next day.
Stephen Cummings, 21, of Northport was arrested on two counts of violation of conditions of release and one count of violation of an order of protection from abuse. Pease said Cummings was intoxicated and in possession of marijuana. He is being held without bail.
Confiscated in the raid were 45 grams of cocaine and 57 OxyContin pills. Cocaine sells on the street for $100 per gram and the pills from $100 to $120 each, Pease said.
Pease said Zambrano and Garnett had been under observation for some time.
“Over the last couple of weeks these guys have been coming up from New York and dealing cocaine and OxyContin in Belfast,” he said.
Pease said authorities gathered enough evidence during their investigation to eventually obtain a search warrant, which was executed at O’Brien’s apartment at 8 p.m. Friday. Officers from MDEA, Belfast Police Department, Maine State Police and Waldo County Sheriff’s Department took part in the raid and search of the residence.
