ELLSWORTH – Richard C. Reidy, 76, died Jan. 23, 2009, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born June 13, 1932, in New York City. Richard grew up in the Bronx borough of New York City, and spent his childhood playing stickball and roasting potatoes in open fires by shadow of the Polo Grounds. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. In 1957, he married Barbara Willis of Mineola, N.Y., and had one son, Michael. That same year, he became a career employee of the U.S. Postal Service and served the public from several Long Island, N.Y., post offices until his retirement in 1986. The next year, he moved to Maine, a place he had come to love after many years of visiting and camping. He resided in Lamoine for six years. In 1993, he married Alice Lippert and resided in Ellsworth Village the remainder of his days. Richard will be remembered for his generous spirit, his willingness to help a neighbor in need, and love of fellowship and conversation. He was an active member of Ellsworth Masonic Lodge, Bangor Shiners Flag Unit and a three-time worthy patron of Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife, Alice Lippert of Ellsworth; and son, Michael Reidy of Lewiston. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at First Congregational Church UCC, 2 Church St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. Nicholas Davis officiating. Interment will be held in the spring at Forest Hill Cemetery, Lamoine.
