SCARBOROUGH – Alice Silva Weymouth, 81, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed on to be with those she loved, Feb. 4, 2009, at Holbrook Health Center after a lengthy struggle with complications due to colon cancer. She was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Taunton, Mass., the daughter of Gertrude McGrath Silva and Bernardino Silva. Alice was a caring and loving person who made friends with everyone she met. She always greeted you with a smile. She graduated from Taunton High School in 1946, and later moved to Maine where she met her former husband, Albert E. Weymouth Jr., late of Bangor, whom she was married to for 43 years, and raised seven children. Alice worked at several Bangor area gift shops throughout the years, including Libby’s and Barclay’s at Bangor International Airport. She also volunteered her time at The Attic for Saint John’s School. In 1994, Alice moved from Bangor to Brattleboro, Vt., to live with her friend and companion, Dominic Zolnoski, late of Brattleboro, Vt., for 12 years. She was predeceased by her first child, Christopher; her longtime companion, Dominic Zolnoski in 2007; and her former husband, Albert E. Weymouth Jr. in 2008. She is survived by sister, Terese Silva of Tempe, Ariz.; her seven children and their spouses, Monica and David Kimel of St. Albans, Vt., Mary-Alice and Dean Curtis of Hampden, Albert “Bub” and Cynthia Weymouth of Westbrook, Valerie and Bill Sowles of Yarmouth, Bernadette and Peter Woodcock of Gorham, Victoria and Brian Smith of Bedford, N.H., and Jason Weymouth and his companion, Heather Sharkey, of Brewer; 13 grandchildren, David Kimel Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Jennifer Kimel Dameron and her husband, Murray, of Charlotte, N.C., Aaron Weymouth and his wife, Melissa, of Topsham, Carrie Weymouth of Westbrook, Tiffany Curtis Palmer and her husband, Chris, of Old Town, Cherie-Lynn Curtis of Hampden, Kristen O’Connell of New York City, Brianna O’Connell of Yarmouth, Haden and Madison Woodcock of Gorham, Colby and MacKenzie Smith of Bedford, N.H., and Matthew Weymouth of Brewer; five and 1/4 great-grandchildren, Brynn and Brooke Kimel of Minnesota, Evan Weymouth of Maine, Aiden and Emma Palmer of Maine, and little baby Dameron expected to arrive this summer; and stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jerry O’Connell, Danielle O’Connell and her sons, Christian and Nicholas and Parker, Matthew and Molly Sowles. Thank you with the deepest of gratitude to the amazing staff at Holbrook Health Center and all the kind people from the Piper Shores community who met and loved our mother, Alice. Thank you to the wonderful nurses and surgeons at Maine Medical Center for the loving care you gave her during the past 15 months and thank you to Beacon Hospice for helping to make her final days as pleasant and peaceful as possible. A celebration of Alice’s life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A reception will be held after at E. Hobbs Hospitality Center. A burial service will take place in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Belfast. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alice’s memory to Hilltop House, 65 Harris Ave., Brattleboro, VT 05301, an independent 501c(3), which gave Alice a safe and supportive place to live while she bravely tried to recover from her colon cancer surgery before returning to Maine to be near her family.
