DOVER-FOXCROFT – Lucien A. Couture, 89, formerly of Sabattus Street, Lewiston, passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. He was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Auburn, son of the late Horace and Julia Laverdiere Couture. He was educated in local schools and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was stationed at Attu, Alaska Naval Air Station as a machinist mate third class working on P.T. boats. He was recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal. Lucien was married Aug. 26, 1939, to Olivette Rancourt for 69 years prior to her death Nov. 8, 2008. He was employed by the city of Lewiston for 32 years and retired as assistant public works director. In 2006, he and his wife, Olivette, moved to Dover-Foxcroft to be closer to their only son, Richard. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and American Legion Post No. 94 of Greenville. He enjoyed traveling and fishing at their camp at Lily Bay, Moosehead Lake and spending time at the coast. He is survived by a son, Richard Couture and his wife, Lynn, of Lily Bay Township; a grandson, Michael Couture and his wife, Trina, of Westbrook; two great-granddaughters, Kelsey and Emma Couture, both of Westbrook; two sisters, Gloria Chadbourne of Lewiston and his twin sister, Lucienne Couture of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife; and a sister, Paulette Patry. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Sabattus. Committal with military honors will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lewiston. For those wishing, flowers may be sent to the church.
