ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine has received six more National Letters of Intent from student-athletes for the Black Bears football team, including former Bonny Eagle High standouts Nathaniel Doehler and Joshua Spearin.

Andre Barboza, a wide receiver from Barnstable, Mass., earned Eastern Massachusetts All-Star and Cape and Island All-Star honors.

Doehler, a quarterback from Steep Falls was the winner of the Fitzpatrick Award and Portland Press Herald’s Player of the Year. He attended Bonny Eagle High School Standish.

Michael Coty, a wide receiver from Chalfont, Pa., was invited to the Pennsylvania East-West All-Star Game and named to the first-team all-league offense and defense.

Kendall James, a defensive back from Roselle, N.J., was named to the N.J. Super Prep 100 and earned all-county, all-league and all-state honors.

Troy Russell, a linebacker from South Plainfield, N.J., helped lead his team to the 2008 state semifinals.

Spearin, an outside linebacker from Limington, helped guide Bonny Eagle High School to four state titles.

Twenty-one student-athletes have either signed letters or committed to attend Maine for the 2009-2010 school year since Wednesday.
