PLYMOUTH and PRINCETON – Dorothy A. Heffren, 95, went home to be with her Lord and loved ones Feb. 8, 2009, at Sebasticook Valley Health Care. She was born Feb. 1, 1914, in Vanceboro, a daughter of Uriah and Lovina Mary (McIver) Howland Sr. She was raised in Vanceboro until the age of 15, when the family moved to Princeton, where she met and married her husband of 65 years, Bruce Heffren. Dot led a very busy, active life and enjoyed it to its fullest. She was a lifelong member of Princeton Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for more than 45 years. She was also a member of Alexander Grange for many years. Dot is survived by her daughter, Carol Hodsdon of Plymouth; a brother, Bruce and wife, Evelyn Howland, of Calais; three sisters, Ruth Nicol of Beverly, Mass., Althea McLaughlin and Jean Lawless, both of Baileyville; three grandchildren, Rick Hodsdon and Teresa of Calais, Judi and husband, Tony Casella, of Edgecomb and David Hodsdon Sr. and Lori Noyes of Old Town; four great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Leslie and Jonathan Batchelder, David Hodsdon Jr. and Cearra Hodsdon; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Howland of Baileyville; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; their infant son, Robert; a baby sister, Hannah; and four brothers, Kenneth and wife, Virginia Howland, Harold and wife, June Howland, Uriah Jr. and wife, Virginia Howland, and Lloyd Howland; and three brothers-in-law, John Nicol, Stephen Lawless and George McLaughlin Sr. Dorothy will be remembered by her special friends, Robert Batchelder, Jim and Jeanne Ivory, David and Ginny Lundberg, all of Plymouth, and Richard and Hazel Franklin of Newport. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Princeton Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Mather officiating. Friends may call noon until the time of services.
